Our Store's Final Days…
If you haven’t yet been to our store, or are a longstanding customer wishing to come by for a final visit, this Saturday (April 25th) will be your last opportunity. After almost 5 years, we will be closing our boutique doors and turning our undivided attention to our online presence. If you have nothing better going, please drop by between 11am and 9pm to help send out our little shopping experiment on a high note. We’ll be having a wonderful book reading taking place from author Night Xposed, whose book Dear Fantasy Girl is making its way up the best seller lists, as well as wine and, well, US on hand to chat you up.
The emotions flowing through us have been a series of highs – the elation of impending freedom – with a few lows: Are we failures? Could we have done better? Was it really necessary to sell our fabulous espresso machine as a symbolic gesture of no turning back? Through it all, however, we’ve been growing back together as we relax and accept our decision, lazily sleeping in and slowing the pace of our mornings after dropping off our son at school. With our web store still receiving orders, we’ve managed to get current on our mortgage for the first time in months, as well as begin paying a few vendors and credit cards that have been neglected. Phone calls from collection agencies have disappeared as arrangements have been made to satisfy their demands for payment schedules and we even popped a check in the mail for our property taxes. The satisfaction of breathing, rather than gasping, for air has also brought about a renewed sense of calm in our relationship; we’re no longer fighting about revenue or who’s responsible for financial calamity. Instead, we seem to be returning to our normal loving selves, skateboarding with our son to school each morning holding hands, smiling, and enjoying (for lack of a better word) life.
Sex has returned in a huge way, incidentally. With the stresses of endless retail hours melting away, our willingness to unwind have paid dividends in the bedroom (and everywhere else we can find an opportunity to get busy). We’re “reviewing” products as never before and our search for the perfect orgasm is now back on track. Indeed, the amount of new products in need of testing is still strong, meaning our industry is continuing to seek innovation and growth during difficult economic times – always a healthy sign. Just one example is a new supplement called Magic Power Coffee, which combines ingredients known for helping erection (Horny Goat Weed, Goji Berry, American Ginseng, among others) with our favorite morning beverage. After drinking a cup, we’ll just say things popped into action and never let down. Likewise, new vibrators and dildos from Jimmy Jane, Tantus, Fun Factory, Lelo, and NobEssence have proven themselves in our “test bed,” so watch for reviews in the coming weeks.
Even our situation with Mom has found peace, as we’ve accepted her fate in nursing care and resolved our guilt over placing her into it. She’s lost control of her bowels, can barely put a coherent thought together, and is physically unable to walk without falling, meaning plenty of drugs to help keep her calm, as well as a realization on our part that her life will probably end in the next year or so. We certainly never envisioned her spending her final days in such a gloomy state, but the staff caring for her has been wonderful and we try to visit as often as we can. Bringing her home once per week, while very trying and difficult, is still a routine we haven’t abandoned.
Our son’s Little League season have only two more weeks to go before playoffs. Our team hasn’t performed as well as we’d hoped, but they’re a plucky bunch. Anything can happen in the post season and we’re hoping to hit some sort of winning stride and ride it into a successful title run. If not, we’ll hopefully have learned from the experience and be ready to return next year to continue the fun and camaraderie playing team sports provides.
In closing, we’d like to thank everyone who has visited our boutique over the last 4 ½ years for your wonderful and loving support and we look forward to keeping you informed through both our own website and the LA Weekly Little Sexy Black Book.
