Summer 2009 Commences…
End: We’ve finished moving from our store location, turning in the keys this past Thursday and closing the book on Freddy and Eddy, the retail experience. Right up until the last box was loaded in the back of our purple Tacoma, we’d held our emotions in check and looked at the positives of our decision. However, once we did our final walk-through and stood amidst the quiet emptiness where espressos and great things happened, the dam burst and we broke down in tears. There was no denying the hard truth; we had failed. Bad economics serves as a convenient excuse, as does our mom sucking our life savings dry in assisted living expenses for the past couple years, but in the end it was OUR decision to ignore the economic picture and avoid the free nursing home for mom, among many other bad decisions. Hopefully, we’ll be able to regroup and try again someday…

Burning Man Coming Up Fast: We took Hoe-NAY (our funky 1985 RV) downtown this past weekend to help teach an orientation to playa newbies. Jenn Ramsey (aka “Plaid”) discussed everything necessary to survive a week in the desert, while we spoke on relationships (first tip – do NOT think going to Burning Man will fix a broken marriage) and kids (we think it’s a great thing to bring them along). We scored Guitar Hero World Tournament used for a few bucks on Craigslist and now spend our evenings honing our rock star skills, free of charge, while humping our brains out on the products that continue to find their way into our bedroom for review. Walks through the Venice canals are always great for the libido and we’re never more grateful to call ourselves Angelinos than when the boardwalk is throbbing under moist sunny skies, our son is still happy to spend time with us, and the playa is but weeks away.
