Product Review: The Screaming O Primo Tux Silicone Vibe Ring

Synopsis: A soft, stretchy silicone cock ring with a 3-speed vibrating bullet located at the top.

Our Review: It’s been awhile since we’ve tried out a new cock ring; not because they have fallen out of favor, but rather we haven’t seen much improvement in design and function in the years since they became a regular part of our sexy toy chest. Metal rings, for example, are primarily different in appearance and weight, but function identically no matter the design or brand (we prefer those from Gear Essentials). Stretchy rings are now almost all made from silicone, with many models sporting one or more vibrating bullets to enhance pleasure for both partners.

Product Review: The Screaming O-Joy

Synopsis: A robust cock ring with a pressure applicable clitoris stimulator.

Eddy’s Review: The enhancement of a cock-ring is usually marketed to men. But as time trudges forward, so does the creativity of sex enhancers. The company Screaming O, known for their cock-rings which usually vibrate, has introduced the O-Joy.

The O-Joy is a cock-ring made of gel which is very pliable and stretches to encompass the male shaft. It is 3 ½” long in length with an opening of 1”, that can be stretched to 6”. The purpose of the cock-ring is to hold the blood in the shaft after the male has become erect to enhance the length of time and hardness for an erection. The little jewel of the O-Joy is that the top 2” of the cock-ring has a bulbous design with various nubbins on one underside and a finger indentation on the top side. This part of the O-Joy is for receiving partner. It enables the either partner to push down on the extended bulbous part to lay and rub against the clitoris as the wearer of the O-Joy thrusts in and out. It really lets the couple play with a different style of stimulation instead of the normal vibration of a “bullet”. The vibration from the “bullet” style cock-rings sometimes it too strong for the couples involved, which may make it uncomfortable.

When we first tried the O-Joy, we almost thought it would not be a good enhancer to our play since we are both so used to vibration. But as we tried it, we found that as we slowed down and really took our time to find our groove to get our own rhythm. I really liked using the extended piece to place it just where I needed it to be to enhance my own clitoral stimulation. I think it is a useful piece, especially if partners aren’t used to or do not want any vibration stimulation.

Freddy’s Review: Posting shortly…

In summary, we really like this little toy. It’s nicely priced, allows one to control the amount of stimulation, and provides the benefits of cock rings in general.

Product Review: Gear Essentials Titan Cock Ring

Synopsis: A metal ring worn to enhance erection and visual appeal of the male genitalia.

Freddy’s Review: Ever since I first tried the Mr. Whiskers Stretch Pleasure Rings, I’ve been completely sold on wearing a cock ring, utilizing different ones often (about a third of the time, by my estimation). Not only do they help maintain a hard erection by preventing the escape of blood from the penis during prolonged love making, but they feel and look sexy as well. Very few things turn Eddy on sexually as much as the site of my clean shaven “love zone” neatly complimented by a ring. It just works for her. Indeed, I’m not afraid to admit that I find it attractive myself and a little self admiration in front of the mirror just prior to sexual activity can do wonders for the psyche!

All of this led up to our annual pilgrimage to the Adult Video News show, where we hunted – vulture like – for interesting and cool items to review and post on this website (yes, it’s a tough job, but SOMEONE has to do it). Tucked well in the back of the main hall was a small booth, comprised of nothing more than a table covered with a black cloth, showing off a collection of gorgeous metal rings. And, though we knew their purpose immediately, we had never considered wearing something like this due to a perception problem on our part that they could be dangerous (when in fact they are actually safer than the silicone rings). The company, Gear Essentials, is actually an off shoot of a metal fabrication company which manufactures Braille (no, really!) and saw an opportunity to introduce extremely high quality standards to the adult market, specifically to the gay sector. Company co-founder Mike Murphy, who along with founder Dwight, explained to us that it’s quite common for gay men to wear cock rings as they would any other piece of jewelry and he wished to introduce this practice to the heterosexual market. When he offered one of the rings to us, we just couldn’t resist.

The first thing we had to do was measure for a proper fit, which is done by taking a strip of paper a quarter inch wide and wrapping it from the base of the shaft (where it connects to your body), down behind the balls (under your scrotum) and back up again so that the paper meets. You then measure the length of the paper and divide by three, giving you the proper diameter. In my case, a quick trip to the men’s lounge confirmed the least large model would suffice (as it will for MOST men, thank you!). The only other choice was the finish, available in a shiny mirror or brushed metal, the latter of which was my choice. Anxiously, I ran back to the lounge to put it on, assured by Mr. Murphy that it could be worn comfortably for hours without a problem.

To put it on, it is necessary to be flaccid and you first tuck each testicle through the ring (one at a time), then push the head of the penis through the top, as if you’re threading a needle. Holding the head with one hand, you then pull the ring back toward you until it is against your body, where it should feel comfortable and secure. Make sure that your testicles are comfortably in front of the ring and make minor adjustments until the ring feels as natural as possible. For me, it was no problem and I was “ringed” in no time. To say I felt sexy wearing the Titan must be comparable to how a woman feels wearing sexy underwear (or maybe even a nipple or clit piercing?). No one other than myself knew it was there, but the mere fact that I knew was, well, really COOL. Eddy didn’t know I had put it on until things heated up after the show back in our hotel room, and she loved the way it looked as she brought things to attention in no time. Function-wise, it worked just like the Mega Stretch EXCEPT without the constant squeezing; wrap a rubber band tightly around your finger and compare the results to wearing a wedding ring and you’ll see what I mean. Even after sex, I didn’t want to take it off, though when I did it was effortless to do so. Cleaning is as simple as soap and water and the stainless steel will retain its beauty for several lifetimes.

In conclusion, this is a GREAT product. Gear makes five other styles, which get progressively heavier and wider, which should address most personal tastes. All of their rings also come in three different sizes to accommodate virtually any size man. I’ve never been one for wearing jewelry (I don’t even wear a watch), but this is one hunk of metal that now adorns my body often and with pleasure!

How To: Choose and Use A Cock Ring

What is a Cock Ring?

A cock ring is a device worn around the penis, used to enhance the appearance of the male genitals and extend love making by keeping blood trapped inside the penis. The first documented use of rings were believed to be in China, made from the eyelids of goats, with eye lashes intact. These flexible eyelids were tied around men’s erections and the hardened lashes were said to increase the pleasure from intercourse.

Another version of their history is that the use of cock rings began many centuries ago, developed for a rich prince who did battle bravely and took many women prisoners. Incapable of satisfying his women captives, he took his problem to his kingdom’s man of medicine, who fashioned him a cock ring.

How does it work, exactly?

An erection occurs when the penis is filled with blood after arousal. Simultaneously, muscle spasms occur at the base of the penis causing the blood to be trapped and the penis to become hard. When there is a dysfunction of the muscle spasms, the blood flows out and the penis remains soft.

A cock ring applied snugly to the base of an erect penis will help prevent the blood that is keeping the penis hard from returning to the body. In this manner, the cock ring helps maintain a firmer erection!

Of what kinds of materials are cock rings made?

Cock rings come in every conceivable form and material known to humankind, including rubber, silicone, leather, metal, cloth, etc. We’ve even heard of them being made of Kevlar, but we’ll believe that one when we see one!

What are the BEST cock rings made from?

This depends on what you WANT from a cock ring. If prolonged sex and a harder erection is what you seek, you’ll want a cock ring that holds blood inside the penis most effectively, which means binds the tightest. For this, you should use either rubber or silicone, which stretch the most and constrict blood flow the most effectively. If you wish to wear a cock ring for longer periods of time, you should acquire a ring with a fixed size, such as one made from metal or leather. In the case of leather, most can be adjusted tighter via metal snaps or buckles, so you can get the best of both worlds. There are also versions of cock rings called “cock and balls,” that both wrap around the penis and balls, AND have an extra ring attached to wrap around the shaft only (see picture below).

How do I know what size cock ring to get?

Whoa there, stud! Though we’re sure you (or your partner) is the biggest thing since John Holmes and Ron Jeremy, we can assure you that most silicone rings will stretch to accommodate even the largest johnsons. In the case of metal rings, measuring is quite simple; take a strip of paper about 8″ long and a quarter inch wide, and wrap it around the area, marking where the two ends meet. Measure the length of the paper and divide by 3 and you’ve got your size. For most men, a 1.75-2 inch ring will be sufficient to wear comfortably.

OK, I got a cock ring, how do I properly wear it?

The proper way to wear a cock ring is behind the balls, and around the top of the shaft against your body (see picture at left). With a silicone or rubber ring, you can also place it around the shaft only, but you run the risk of it slipping off during sex or when things get wet and slippery. No matter which one you choose, it should fit comfortably and cause no pain. IN ALL CASES, A COCK RING SHOULD BE PUT ON WHILE NOT ERECT!!!

To put on a stretchy ring, simply stretch the ring with the index and ring fingers of both hands, bringing it underneath and behind the balls, then back toward your body, slowly allowing the tension to bind the area securely. A metal ring is a little trickier; start with one testicle through the ring, then the other, then fold the penis and point it downward, pushing it through and pulling the ring back against your body, above the shaft. For a demo slide show, click here to see what we’re talking about.

That sounds sensible, can these things cause damage to my privates?

The answer to this question is a resounding YES. The penis is composed of millions of blood vessels and constricting blood flow into, or out of, the area is not something your genitals are designed to do. Some of the pitfalls of using a cock ring improperly (too tightly) are numbness, discoloration, and severe pain.

For safety and pleasure, a cock ring needs to increase the size of the erection only slightly. If you notice more pronounced swelling, then the fit is too tight. In that case, take the cock ring off immediately. It’s also vital for men to take off their cock ring at the first sign of pain or if the genitals feel cold. In addition, it’s dangerous to leave a ring on for too long, including wearing one to sleep when spontaneous erections are all the rage. An erection of several hours can cause blood coagulation in the penis, making it difficult to lose the erection. This is called priapism, a prolonged erection. Since new blood cannot enter the penis, this can be severely painful and cause permanent damage to the erectile tissue. If this happens to you, seek medical attention as soon as possible, and don’t worry — the staff at the ER has seen this before.

Where can I get a cock ring?

If you want a metal or silicone ring, we sell them in our online store (you can find reviews of both in our Product Reviews category). However, the BEST places with the widest selection are, believe it or not, gay adult shops. Apparently, cock rings have been a staple of the gay community for years and are just now becoming popular among the heterosexual demographic, to which we belong. If you don’t have a gay adult shop in your area (or, as is more likely, you’re not adventurous enough to go into one), then cruising through the various adult shops online will yield great results. Typing “cock ring” into Google, for example, will generate literally thousands of good resources.

Product Review: Snap Leather Cock Ring

Synopsis: An adjustable leather cock ring.

Our Review: If you’ve visited our website with any regularity, you may have noticed I have a huge fascination with all manner of cock rings. In fact, as the years have passed, rarely is the time I haven’t had an adornment of some kind ringing my (ahem) thing. Metal, wood, silicone, elastomer, I’ve tried them all.

Of course, with so much experience one would imagine I’d have the whole installation process licked. True, I can certainly get most rings on and off without too much hassle, there is hassle, nevertheless. One must squeeze quite a bit through a fixed size ring, oftentimes not without some pain involved, all the while adjusting for different fits due to temperature, weight, and width. Wouldn’t it be nice if one could easily just snap one into place?

Glad I asked! The 5-Speed (or snap) leather ring solves the problem not only of installation – it easily wraps around and one simply snaps it to fit, accordingly – but of function. What that means, exactly, is that if one simply wants to wear the ring out and about (as I often do), one simply snaps it snugly into place and off he goes. If you wish to assist in sexual performance, however, which is a cock ring’s greatest benefit (traps blood in, resulting in longer lasting, harder erections), then simply go one snap tighter and you’ve mimicked the effect of a stretchy ring. Removal is – pardon the cliche’ – a snap, as one just unsnaps the leather device for instant retrieval. The high quality leather means years of use as well, so plan on this handy product becoming a regular visitor to your package in no time.

In summation, I love this ring and plan to explore other leather cock and ball items in the near future.

Product Review: Lux LX4 Waterproof Vibrating Ring

Synopsis: A vibrating silicone cock ring meant to be worn at the base of the shaft to provide stimulation of the clitoris or perineum of your partner.

Freddy’s Review: It’s not often we’ll recommend a product of such lofty expense, but like companies producing higher end sex products (Lelo, Fun Factory, and Leaf, to name a few), we strive to find the best of the best no matter the cost. The Lux LX4-plus vibrating ring arrived on our doorstep with lofty expectations, indeed, and we wasted no time in putting it through its paces. Did Lux deliver? Read on…

First, the LX4-plus is a silicone ring, sturdily constructed from high grade silicone and is – to the naked eye – perfectly seamless. This is quite remarkable when you try to find the charging receptacle, located descreetly on the side of the unit. We should also mention the smooth finish over the entire product, making for a nice experience when holding in your hand. The LX4 comes in a lovely case, the charger stowed beneath the flap and out of sight, a small pouch also present for travelling. To charge, simply push the small pin into the receptacle on the side and wait a few hours. Our unit was already charged upon arrival, which we aren’t certain is the factory default, but it was nice to be ready to rock right out of the box, so to speak.

Once removed from the box, we set about evaluating the LX4-plus (the best part) and installed it onto the male side of our partnership, the ring easily stretching to accommodate the appropriate anatomical feature. Unlike many rings that stretch to fit over the entire package (behind the testicles and over the shaft), the LX4 is strictly for using at the base of the shaft. The ring does stretch quite wide, theoretically meaning one could use it in the more traditional manner, but it would be a tight fit and quite difficult to remove without severe pinching. If you do decide to get this adventurous, be sure to shave as closely as possible to avoid entanglements.

Once in place, operation of the vibrator is as simple as pushing the top gently to activate its lowest setting. Pressing again increases the power until you reach its maximum output at level four, which is surprisingly powerful and more than enough to induce orgasm if applied to an appropriately placed clitoris. Indeed, a few seconds at level three was more than enough “oomph” to get Eddy/Alicia to climax and in subsequent tries we experimented with turning the vibrator upside down to stimulate the perineum (the area between the vagina and anus) with great results.

In short, if you’re looking for an upscale vibrating erection ring you’ll not be disappointed with the Lux LX4-Plus. You might just say it’s the ultimate “bling for your thing.”
