Product Review: Lelo Nea

Synopsis: A less expensive version of the Lelo Lily Pleasure Object, made from hard plastic instead of silicone.

Eddy’s Review: It is amazing what the Swedes create. Not content to sit on their laurels with their luxurious predecessor, the Lily, they released a sequel, the Nea, that is not only less expensive, but in many ways superior to its more expensive sibling.

The NEA has all the bells and whistles that the Lily has with just one component missing, the wonderful silky tactile material that envelopes the Lily. The NEA has a different finish which is slicker and glossier. They have added a romantic little design on the top and bottom to catch the eye of the beholder. It uses the same universal charger that the other two designed vibes (Lily and Ida) use. It had the same brilliant technology that the previous vibes use also; LED lit pads that enable the user to go from low, medium and high by the mere pressing of its well positioned buttons. Sex Toy Product Review: Ovo K2 Rabbit Style Vibrator

ovok2Synopsis: A small, low-priced, yet powerful sex toy that puts more expensive rivals (Lelo, are you listening?) to shame.

Our Review: After years of trying virtually every type of sex toy ever invented, and in all price ranges, styles, colors, and material compositions, we’ve lately tried to turn our attention toward finding bargains in these unsettled economic times, and no company we’ve come across embodies orgasms-on-the-cheap quite like German manufacturer Ovo. We’ve written reviews of two of their vibrators – the T1 and D1 – and placed our order for their medium sized rabbit device, following their eschewing of catchy product names and simply titled the K2. Could this Lelo Ina knockoff deliver similar orgasms at less than half the cost?

The answer to that question would be an emphatic YES, but we’ll get to that in a moment. The Ovo K2 rabbit vibrator is a medium sized device, approximately 10″ in total length, with an insert able length of just over 5″. The rabbit “ear” protrudes outward about 2.5″ and can be flexed into just about perpendicular from the toy. There is one motor located inside the silicone shaft, which is controlled via four buttons on its base/housing, and a snug end cap twists off to reveal the battery compartment (the K2 takes two AAA batteries). The K2 has three speed settings and another five programming modes, enabling a variety of different options and, as a bonus, is waterproof for shower or bath play. The packaging is top notch as with all of their other toys, with the K2 set neatly inside a sturdy and elegantly designed box with the product’s picture adorning the front. How they manage to produce such a lovely presentation for under $50.00 is almost inconceivable. As an aside, Ovo guarantees their product for FIFTEEN YEARS, though we are a bit unclear as to how one goes about returning a defective item to Germany as suggested on their website.

Once put into use the Ovo performed every bit up to standards set by products costing double its price. The K2 produced three ejaculations (yes, yes, we know, Eddy is a master of this, but still…) in short order and its size made for an easy clitoral addition when engaging in intercourse. We took it into the shower for some water play and dared to actually submerge it (which the instructions specifically warn against, but we did it anyway) and the K2 took on no water – none – in its battery compartment (whew!). Just for kicks, we dusted off our Lelo Ina, obviously an inspiration for the K2, and compared them side by side. Though the Ina boasts a second motor and a few more programming options, the results were close in terms of effectiveness. The Ovo K2 manages plenty of stimulation despite the absence of a second power plant and its just as quiet. In terms of value, we give the nod to the $100.00 less expensive Ovo.

In summation, we are going to go ahead and order the rest of the Ovo lineup and replace some of our older, redundant toys. The K2 is an awesome bargain and great compliment to any couples toy arsenal, whether beginner or advanced or somewhere in between.

Product Review: Jopen Vanity Vr6 Vibrator

jopenvr6Synopsis: A dual motor, waterproof, rabbit style vibrator.

Our Review: First, a short history. California Exotics Novelties has been around for many years, one of the “Big 5” of adult manufacturers, along with Doc Johnson, Topco, Pipedream, and Nasstoys. These five companies produce thousands of sexual-oriented items in virtually every category, be it vibrators, dildos, games, and otherwise. Unfortunately, until around mid-2000, all five of these corporations were known for mass producing lower quality products. This is not to say their wares were bad; however, until a boom in sex toy innovations and higher end manufacturers hit the adult industry scene around 2004, most notably Fun Factory and Lelo, Cal Exotics and its four competitors rarely explored the luxury market. With “Sex in the City” ushering in a new generation of sex toy consumers looking for quality and elegance, it was only a matter of time before the Big Five addressed their needs.

With California Exotics, this push took the form of their Jopen line, a spin-off division focusing on the production of premium sex toys. Their Vanity series, which utilizes medical grade silicone, cutting edge motor technology, and better emphasis on female-friendly packaging, marks a positive departure away from past plastic clam shells with porn star endorsements as their marketing engines. We decided to choose their Vr6 rabbit-style vibrator as our first foray into Jopen and it would be an understatement to say we were impressed. The Jopen Vr6 is as cutting edge as adult products get, with independent dual motors offering virtually unlimited combinations of power and versatility, a silky silicone finish that’s a joy to hold, waterproof operation (and by this we mean the Vr6 is completely submersible), ultra quick charging, and upscale packaging befitting a product in its $100.00 plus price range. In many ways, it reminds us of the Lelo Ina 2, which we will compare to the Vr6 directly in a future side-by-side comparison.

Packaging

The Jopen Vr6 comes in a lovely white box, adorned with the Vanity logo and “Vr6” subtly visible on the front. Flip the box over and a picture of the Vr6 is embossed on the back, with most of its specifications visible alongside. Curiously, the measurements are not given, but we assume that the designation of “6” in the Jopen line corresponds to inches, as a quick measurement confirmed that the length of the insert able portion of the vibrator was exactly six inches. Hence, we can extrapolate that the Vr4 will most likely be approximately four inches and we will test this theory once we get our paws on one. Once you lift the box cover up and off, the Vr6 is nestled snugly inside, its charger, carrying pouch, and instructions hidden in the compartment beneath. Quite frankly, it’s a bit disconcerting seeing so much attention to detail from a California Exotics offering, so mark us down as impressed.

Charging and Usage

As per the instructions, we plugged in the charger – located behind the vibrator near the base – and waiting the recommended four hours before checking its progress. Surprisingly, the Jopen Vr6 was fully charged and ready to go in just under 3 hours, 55 minutes. Hence, with a simple push of its two buttons, the Vr6 purred to life. Operating the toy is a simple matter of either holding down each button to increase the power of its corresponding motor (the bottom button for the shaft, the top for the clit stimulator), or tapping to enter its many programming modes. One of the Vr6’s most unique features is an instant-off function that can be handy if interrupted during play or if things get a little too intense. We were also impressed at how quiet this vibrator was and felt no hesitation using it with our son’s bedroom just across the hall (the sounds of Alicia’s orgasms were of more concern, actually). As for delivery of said orgasms, the Vr6 “came” through, repeatedly. The shaft was perfectly sized for hitting her g-spot and the clitoral “ear” brought her to earth shaking climax as we’d hoped. Using it together, the Vr6 shaft fit nicely over Alicia’s clitoris while making love and even filled in as an anal stimulator in the doggy position. As the two of us aren’t really bath lovers, we can only attest to the Jopen Vr6 working flawlessly in our shower because didn’t submerge it and can’t verify the claim of completely being waterproof. That minor omission on our part aside, we like the Jopen Vr6 so much that it has now become almost the only rabbit vibe we use. Incidentally, we decided to satisfy our curiosity as to how long the Vr6 would hold a charge and turned on both motors full blast; the result was 56 minutes of run time before it finally ran itself fully down. Considering it would be insanity to even use this toy at full power (believe us when we say it is mind boggling how high it goes), one could probably get away with days of use before plugging in for a recharge.

In summary, the Jopen Vr6 is a huge win for California Exotics and those of us looking for a great quality, rabbit style vibrator. It’s solid construction, beautiful packaging, and versatility make the Vr6 fantastic for solo and couples play and we give it our highest recommendation.
